Below is my book reading list. Some of them I have read and recommend; including some of my favourite books, some I plan on reading or am currently reading. Feel free to suggest any additional books and I will add them for you (within reason). I’d love to hear your thoughts on these books if you have read them too, or if you end up reading any of them, I hope you enjoy.

  • Harry Potter series by J.K Rowling– I don’t think I really need to summarise this one!
  • Alice’s adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll (Paperback) – my all time favourite book, if you want to watch a film of this instead of reading it, and you want it true to this specific book, don’t go for Tim Burtons version. It’s a good film, but it isn’t the story of this book. In this book, it tells the story of how Alice came to be known to everyone down the rabbit hole.
  • Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill (Paperback)- This one is a bit of a ghost story, but it’s a really good one. It’s all about a retired rock star and his life now. Literally could not put it down- I borrowed it from a library on the off chance I’d like it and ended up buying my own copy!
  • Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher (Paperback) – This is probably one more for any of my teenage readers. It’s quite an emotional book though, it was one I got on special offer and didn’t think I’d like it; I thought it’d be too childish but I actually really enjoyed it!
  • The Facebook Serial Killer by ML Stewart- Well, when I saw a book on Amazon with this name, how could I not get it?! I have read the second part too, but I much preferred this. It’s a bit of a psychological thriller, and it was really cleverly written. It’s all about the main character seeking vengeance for the death of his loved ones. It also really makes you wonder who could be looking at your Facebook profile!
  • The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde (Paperback) – Not enough is said about this book! It is absolutely genius; I’ll never forget when I first read it, sitting on a bus, laughing my head off! Genuine original comedy, many people will have seen it on TV. A Haaaandbaaag?!
  • Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson (Paperback) – Probably still my favourite Pirate related story, and I loved Pirates of the Caribbean!
  • Kensukes Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo- I must have been about ten or eleven when I read this the first time but I really liked it. I remember thinking it was really good how, at the back of the paperback edition it gave you a list of phrases in Japanese (because the sailor Michael meets in the book is Japanese)
  • Hold On by Alan Gibbons (Paperback) – I am a big fan of Alan Gibbons, but this is my favourite of his books. It’s quite a sad story but I thought it showed what some lives are like, and it gave us an insight as to how people cope with things like suicide.
  • The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown– I am also a big fan of Dan Brown. His books are just so clever; not so much this one but definitely his others had me thinking and using my brain!
  • Angels and Demons by Dan Brown- The only thing about this one is that when it was made in to a film, they missed so many of the best bits!! If you’ve seen the film and not read the book then you really should. And try not to imagine Ewan McGregor speaking as you read!
  • Digital Fortress by Dan Brown- As the title suggests, this book has a lot to do with technology, and in an age of digital technology, this is a really good book. It delves in to all the conspiracy of how the government can see everything you do.
  • Deception Point by Dan Brown- I really like this book. The amount of walls I walked into whilst trying to walk and read this is unbelievable. This is more of a spacey book. It starts off by telling us about the main character, whose father is a politician, and tells us about a meteor. The meteor could affect the US space policy as well as the impending elections, and the question of ‘is it genuine’ arises.
  • The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown- This is the third book by Dan Brown that includes Robert Langdon, and doesn’t he just love a new lady in every book! But this was really good, he’d done the Holy Grail, and the Illuminati, this time he’s facing the Freemasons. Another one to make you use your brain.
  • Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson (Paperback) – I had heard a lot about this book so I eventually decided to give it a go. It is about two girls who suffer from eating disorders, and one of them commits suicide. I really liked that it showed everything from the second girls perspective; how she viewed life through her disorder, and how it made everything in her head so much different to how it was in reality. If you like the subject of eating disorders then I’d also recommend ‘The Echo Glass’ by Heather Morrall.
  • I am Legend by Richard Matheson (Paperback) – I read this one night when I couldn’t sleep. I was sat up at 3am wondering how this book isn’t as popular, if not more popular, than the Twilight series! To me, this has a much better storyline and is much more apocalyptic. Watching the film is not a substitute for reading the book- the book is so much better, the entire character was changed for the film.
  • Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice- Don’t worry, I’m not going to start listing vampire books! This has to be my favourite vampire book, and I’ve read a fair few! It tells us a bit of Lestats back story before we see him again in ‘Queen of the Damned’ and ‘The Vampire Lestat’. I much preferred this one to her other books.
  • Perfume: Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind- Again, one of my favourite books. This is quite a dark story, I find it hard to explain this one without spoiling it! There is a film adaptation of this, which I actually saw before I read it, but the film is definitely not one for the squeamish or children!
  • Room by Emma Donoghue (Paperback) – I haven’t actually quite finished this, but so far so good. I would love to hear anyones thoughts if they have finished it!
  • Autism by Hand by Lorca Damon (Paperback) – I really liked this. It showed Autism from a Mothers point of view, and shows how she felt about other people around her autistic daughter. The motivation behind this book was also very good, she says it is the book she needed that wasn’t there when she needed it. It must’ve been so hard to write, and just for that she deserves to be on this list, but it is a really good book.

I haven’t yet read the following books, but I am planning on it, and they all sound amazing!

  • The Van Gogh file by Kenneth Wilkie (Paperback) – I haven’t read this yet, but I find Van Gogh fascinating so I will definitely be back with my thoughts on this!
  • Lunara: Seth and Chloe by Wyatt Davenport (Paperback) – This is the first book in a three part series. A must read for sci-fi fans.
  • Vengeance Wears Black by Seumas Gallacher- Can be read as a sequel to his first book, but also as a stand-alone. If the cover art is anything to go by, it’s bound to be brilliant!
  • Charcoal by J.E Rowney (Paperback) – I heard this is a romance, which I don’t usually like, but actually, having read some of the reviews on it, it sounds really good.
  • Breathless by Tawdra Kandle (Paperback) – This is part of a series. I’m not sure why I decided to read this one first, but I have made that decision. Again, the reviews on this are shining so it should be a good read.

Alas, this is the end. I am open to suggestions of additions and will be updating as I read books and also if I think of any I have read that should be included. I hope you enjoy the books.
